Why FitBound requires users to be 18 or older.
A factual explanation of FitBound's age requirement, content, and data practices — for App Store review and for users.
1. Age Requirement
FitBound requires all account holders to be 18 years of age or older. This is enforced during onboarding: before an account is created, users must confirm their birthdate and accept the current versions of the Terms of Service, End User License Agreement (EULA), Privacy Policy, and Health & Fitness Disclaimer. Acceptance is recorded server-side against the specific document versions accepted.
2. Content Descriptors
FitBound includes the following content, described using ESRB-style descriptors:
- Fantasy Violence
- Boss encounters use stat-based combat against fantasy-themed enemies (a forging-tier system, e.g. “The Kindled,” “The Tempered”). Encounters are resolved by workout performance against stat thresholds, not depicted violence — there are no realistic or graphic combat animations.
- Weapon References
- The crafting and equipment system includes weapon-type items, alongside armor, accessories, and cosmetics, as part of normal gameplay progression.
- Competition
- Frequent competitive features: guild-vs-guild gym control (guilds compete for daily control of real-world gyms based on member activity), individual ranked progression (an 18-tier rank scale), and seasonal leaderboards ranking the user against friends, gym members, and guild members.
3. Interactive Elements
Separate from content descriptors, these describe how FitBound interacts with users and their data:
- Shares Location
- Yes. FitBound requests foreground location access for two purposes: finding nearby gyms when you add a gym, and a point-in-time location check when you start a gym boss encounter (a short-lived verification that you are at the saved gym, which also feeds guild gym-control scoring). Location is never used for continuous or background tracking. Each verification event stores the precise coordinate reported at that moment (not an ongoing movement history), used only to confirm you were at the saved gym.
- User Interaction
- Guilds and friends involve user-created content (guild names and descriptions, usernames) visible to other users within the app. Players can also trade in-game gear and materials with friends, gated by eligibility rules (a minimum friendship duration and a shared-gym requirement) with explicit confirmation from both sides. Premium currency is never tradable.
- In-App Purchases
- The app offers optional in-app purchases: a Premium subscription ($9.99/month or $49.99/year, each with a 7-day free trial) that unlocks unlimited AI-programmed workouts and meal scans, and Bound Gem premium-currency bundles ($0.99–$99.99). Bound Gems never purchase permanent competitive power and can never be traded between players. Manual workout tracking, manual food logging, and the full game layer remain usable without paying.
